With plenty to say and stunning images to draw you into, LiterArties will help you capture your own creativity

LiterArties' vision of Capturing our Creativity encompasses our aim to encourage others to access their creativity too. Several members  have  a mission to share their enthusiasm and skills through workshops and talks. Both art and writing can be used therapeutically, but more than their potential use as self-help and healing tools, they are also media through which individuals can express themselves, develop inner forms of self-belief and grasp opportunities for self-expansion. How  many people have you heard say, ‘Oh, I can’t draw!’ or, ‘But I could never write a booK!’? LiterArties challenge that through demonstrating how they do both, in both their creative and everyday lives.

We like to offer a range of topics and include a variety of creative methods, often with hands-on experience, during our exhibitions. To broaden the base of subjects and skills we can offer we work in partnership with authors from Writers in Oxford (WiO).

Here are examples that can be tailored as necessary. These are held on the premises and will vary accordingly to the type of visitor anticipated at the exhibition:
  • Capturing creativity
  • Getting started writing
  • The impact of geometry in art
  • The Power of Intent in Art
  • Getting started writing
  • Getting published
  • Getting started writing your autobiography/family biography
  • Kick starting your inner artist: try it – watercolour
  • Kick starting your inner artist: try it – sketching
  • Combining words and pictures – illustration
  • Poetry workshops – finding words to express images
  • Self-expression through art/writing.
  • Weaving the Web - creating using shapes, light, sound and the elements.
  • Bring meaning into your art by using geometry

  • Getting your message across: a brief look at the art of copywriting
  • 1:1 Budding writers - have your writing critiqued by an experienced author
For a more intimate time to chat to a LiterArties member, in an informal setting, we offer Meet the Author-Artist sessions, which can include live art demonstrations. These will have a theme, such as an aspect of writing or art demonstrations.

Getting Started Writing

Picture

Ever wanted to write a story – or even a book? But where do you start, and how do you create compelling fiction? Debrah Martin and Dennis Hamley have no less than 28 books currently in print between them, including the writer’s ‘bible’, Debrah’s
Write, Publish, Promote which supports the longer creative writing courses she also teaches around Oxfordshire. Come and join them for this workshop on fiction writing, and leave with your own book or writing project well underway.

Capturing Creativity

One's personal truth is always mute – when it is truly expressed it is communicated in silence – and if one really has to speak what results is the translation of that silence into pictures, music, dance and other creative acts. Rosie Phipps and/or Karen French will introduce you to a way of working which will help you recognise the creativity that lies within yourself.

Participants will be introduced to a practical session exploring techniques for finding their own creativity, including a short meditation, leading to the creation of images using paint, charcoal and other basic art materials. Wear old clothes and come along prepared to be experimental!

Do you have some understanding of meditation, more interested in looking at forms the paint creates, can manage the intense feelings that go with creation/destruction and wait for harmony? If so then come along and create with us.
